Woods Equals Career-Best with Sydney Podium

Zoe Woods has equalled her best ever outright result in the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series with another podium in a competitive outing for TekworkX Motorsport in the Ceilings by Design Porsche Cayman GT4 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Competing alongside Nash Morris, the weekend was characterised by superior race pace after two qualifying performances deep inside the top 10.

Woods qualified best of the duo, earning eighth on the grid for Race 2 of the weekend following Morris’ ninth place effort in the opening Qualifying session. Morris was tasked with starting the opening race and handed the car to Woods in contention for a top five place just past the halfway mark.

In a scintillating closing stint, Woods stormed towards the leading group with a string of consistent laps to take third place and halve the gap to the race lead. Despite a robust defensive drive Woods and Morris narrowly missed out on a podium after an overtake in the dying laps which left the Ceilings by Design entry fourth overall.

That result matched their best performance from the opening round at Phillip Island but left the pairing hungry for more in Race 2 of the weekend. Woods started excellently, showcasing her ability to get the elbows out and positioning herself in a contending position for Morris to take over after the pit stop.

Morris picked up where Woods left off and elevated the duo’s Porsche Cayman on to the podium, aided by a valiant last lap defence of the position.

The result is Woods’ second outright podium in GT4 competition, both coming at Sydney Motorsport Park, and the first podium with Morris as co-driver.

Round three of the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series takes place at TekworkX Motorsport’s home track from May 30-June 1 at Queensland Raceway.

Quotes:
Zoe Woods
“It’s definitely special to do it two years in a row. We had a great weekend, and Sydney holds a lot of meaning for me, it’s where I grew up for 18 years before moving to the Gold Coast.

“This year was extra emotional. I lost my grandfather earlier this year and made a promise to myself that I’d make him proud. Standing on the podium felt like I kept that promise. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the remaining rounds.

“Each weekend has been a step forward for me personally. Having the support of the team, my family, and the Morris family around has really helped build confidence. We didn’t qualify as well as we hoped, both Nash and I left a few tenths out there, but we knew what had to be done. We put our heads down, worked together, and made it happen.

“We’ve been consistently in the top five, and to finish the weekend with a podium was a massive team effort and a great way to reward everyone’s hard work.”
